Official Launch of Zone 11 on July 25, 2015 in Scarborough

Toronto, ON – Wheel Dance is thrilled to announce its collaboration with Ballet Creole for an upcoming performance marking the official launch of the Pan Am Path. This celebratory event, which will take place on July 25, 2015 from 1-4 pm at Thomson Memorial Park (1007 Brimley Rd., Scarborough), will include a day of dance and entertainment. Wheel Dance and Ballet Creole have begun rehearsals for this first-of-its-kind collaboration in Canada, and invite the media and public to attend their performance.

Ballet Creole has been commissioned by Friends of the Pan Am Path to participate in the City Wide Arts Relay, which began on May 16, 2015. Ballet Creole will officially launch Zone 11 on July 25th. The celebration will include a Flash Mob Parade along the Pan Am Path from 1-2 pm, followed by a Live Performance with Ballet Creole, Wheel Dance, the Samba Squad and members of the Ontario Steel Pan Association from 2-3 pm. Between 3-4 pm, community members are invited to enjoy the park and other activities happening onsite at the Scarborough Museum. There will also be a Parapan Am Activity Station set up in the park with sitting volleyball, bocce and other activities.

“Wheel Dance is honoured to be a part of this initiative in celebration of the Pan Am Path, the Pan Am/ParaPan Am games, and community inclusiveness, engagement and accessibility,” says Dr. Iris Kulbatski, Executive Director of Wheel Dance. “Collaborating with Ballet Creole embodies one of our co re principles that diversity in art, sport, and cultural activities should be promoted and celebrated. This collaboration is a beautiful example of how dance, sport, and art can build and strengthen communities. This performance is particularly meaningful to our dancers, as they work towards their goal of one day representing Canada at international Paralympic-level wheelchair DanceSport competitions.”
